Pilgrimage in the Footsteps of Saint Nikolai Velimirovich

June 2–13, 2026
With the Blessing of His Eminence, Archbishop Michael

With the blessing of His Eminence, Archbishop Michael, faithful of the Diocese are invited to participate in a pilgrimage in the Footsteps of Saint Nikolai Velimirovich, taking place June 2–13, 2026.

This pilgrimage follows the life and legacy of Saint Nicholai Velimirović (1881–1956) — one of the most influential Serbian Orthodox theologians, writers, and spiritual leaders of the 20th century. Often called the “New Chrysostom,” Saint Nicholai was a tireless preacher, gifted orator, and prolific author whose writings continue to inspire Orthodox Christians around the world. A survivor of the Dachau concentration camp, his life was marked by profound faith and spiritual courage.

The journey begins in Serbia, where Saint Nicholai was born and carried out much of his pastoral, academic, and episcopal ministry. From there, pilgrims will travel through North Macedonia and Kosovo, visiting sacred sites central to the Serbian Orthodox Church, including the renowned monasteries of Dečani, Gračanica, and the Peć Patriarchate.

This unique opportunity offers a deeper encounter with the saint’s spiritual path by visiting the places where he lived, served, and suffered — exploring firsthand the history, culture, and faith that shaped his remarkable witness.

The pilgrimage is sponsored by St. Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, where Saint Nicholai once taught during his time in the United States. His legacy continues to inspire new generations of clergy and faithful through the seminary’s ongoing commitment to Orthodox theological education and formation.
