The faithful of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey are warmly invited to gather for the celebration of Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers on Sunday, March 1 at 4:00 PM, hosted at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.
The service will be presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Michael of New York and the Diocese of New York and New Jersey of the Orthodox Church in America, who will serve as the main celebrant, along with local clergy from across the region. The Guest Homilist for the service will be the Rev. Fr. Paul Abernathy, Rector of St. Moses the Black Church (of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese) in Pittsburgh, and Chief Executive Officer of the Neighborhood Resilience Project, whose mission is to support the transformation of neighborhoods from trauma-affected communities in the inner-city.
The Vespers service will feature the Spirit of Orthodoxy Festal Choir, adding to the solemn and joyful character of this important liturgical observance, which proclaims the victory of the Orthodox faith and the restoration of the holy icons. The celebration echoes the Church’s confession: “We venerate Thy most pure image, O Good One.”
Following the service, all attendees are invited to a reception, offering an opportunity for fellowship among clergy and faithful. Parking will be available at the parish.
All are encouraged to attend this pan-Orthodox celebration and to “come celebrate the faith which has established the universe.”
