Commission on Liturgical Music Relaunches The Tuning Fork

The Diocese of New York and New Jersey's Commission on Liturgical Music is pleased to announce the release of the inaugural issue of The Tuning Fork, a newsletter dedicated to supporting Orthodox church singers, choir directors, and everyone involved in the sacred ministry of liturgical music.

Revived after nearly two decades, The Tuning Fork seeks to provide practical guidance, encouragement, and educational resources for parish choirs of all sizes and levels of experience. While many resources are available for professionally trained musicians, this publication is written with the everyday parish singer in mind—those who faithfully offer their voices in worship out of love for Christ and His Church.

The first issue features a thoughtful article by Matushka Doreen Bartholomew on building stronger parish choirs through commitment, preparation, and collaboration between clergy, choir directors, and singers. Readers will also find practical vocal tips, explanations of common liturgical and musical terms, a helpful question-and-answer section addressing common challenges faced by church singers, and a collection of recommended resources for continued learning.

The Commission on Liturgical Music plans to publish The Tuning Fork twice each year and welcomes feedback, suggestions, and future contributions from readers throughout the Diocese and beyond.
