Pearl River, NY: Archimandrite Joseph Awarded With Synodal Gramota

[Pearl River, NY]

Holy Transfiguration Church, Pearl River, NY was the site for a Divine Liturgy concelebrated by the Very Reverend Mitred Archpriest Joseph Lickwar, diocesan chancellor, rector of Sts. Peter & Paul Cathedral, Jersey City, NJ; the Very Reverend Archpriest Samuel Kedala, retired, former dean of the New Jersey Deanery; and the Very Reverend Stephen Evanina, rector, Holy Resurrection Church, Wayne, NJ; Saturday, September 25, 2021

The Divine Liturgy commemorated our Holy Father, Sergius of Radonezh; a 14th c. Russian monk, spiritual leader, and reformer of monasticism, highly revered throughout the Orthodox Church, and greatly venerated in the Russian Orthodox Church. The rector of Holy Transfiguration Church, the Right Reverend Archimandrite Joseph (Hoffman), a 1991 Master of Divinity graduate of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, Crestwood, NY, was honored in recognition of the recent anniversary (8/25) of his ordination to the Holy Priesthood, marking thirty years of service to Christ’s Holy Church.

In his homily, Father Joseph Lickwar elaborated on the very important role of monasticism within the Church, as exemplified by St. Sergius, and demonstrated in the thirty-year ministry of the hieromonk, Archimandrite Joseph; noting the archimandrite’s parish assignments as rector of St. Michael Church, Pueblo, CO; sacristan of Holy Virgin Mary Cathedral, Los Angeles, CA; rector of Christ the Saviour Church, Byesville, OH; dean of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Chicago, IL; and rector of Holy Transfiguration Church, Pearl River, NY. Additionally, Archimandrite Joseph has served as diocesan secretary, acting chancellor, diocesan clergy representative to the Metropolitan Council of the OCA, auditor, and spiritual court judge of the Diocese of New York & New Jersey, as well as personal secretary and teaching assistant for His Eminence Archbishop PETER, of blessed memory.

On behalf of His Eminence, Archbishop MICHAEL, who could not be present due to illness, the chancellor, Mitred Archpriest Joseph Lickwar, awarded Archimandrite Joseph with a synodal gramota, signed by all the bishops of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America.

We sincerely congratulate Archimandrite Joseph on this monumental occasion, pray that God will continue to bless his ministry, and grant him many blessed years.
