[East Meadow, NY] (June 23, 2024) - Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in East Meadow, NY, joyously celebrated its 100th anniversary on the Day of Pentecost, coinciding with the church's Patronal Feast Day. This momentous occasion, filled with faith and community spirit, marked a significant milestone in the parish's rich history.
His Eminence, Archbishop Michael celebrated Vigil on Saturday and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy followed by Kneeling Vespers on Sunday. Archbishop Michael awarded Fr. Martin Kraus the Jeweled Cross for his many years of priestly service. At the conclusion of the service, Reader Dr. Nicholas Reeves was recognized with a Gramota for over 20 years of dedicated service as Choir Director. Additionally, Matushka Dennise Kraus received a Gramota for her visionary leadership in the Blessed Mother Olga Women's Ministry and Diocesan Youth Ministry. In recognition of its century-long service to the faithful in East Meadow, a Gramota was also awarded to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, celebrating its enduring legacy and contributions to the community.
Sunday evening's celebratory dinner at Stewart Manor Country Club in Garden City brought together parishioners, former parishioners, and friends to honor the century-long legacy of the church. The event was graced by the presence of past pastor, the Very Reverend Alexander Garklavs, his wife, Matushka Carol, and their son, Fr. Nicholas Garklavs, now rector of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Whitestone, NY.
The weekend's festivities drew close to 150 attendees, including parishioners, former members, and friends of the parish. The joyful celebrations were a testament to the unwavering faith and community spirit that has sustained Holy Trinity Orthodox Church over the past 100 years.
