[Wayne, NY] - The Annual Diocesan Altar Server's Retreat was held on Saturday, June 29th, at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Wayne, NJ. His Eminence, Archbishop Michael, celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, and over thirty altar servers participated. The beautiful Eucharistic celebration was followed by a wonderful brunch provided by the parish.
The participants were taught how to properly prepare for the hierarch's visit by learning how to fold the bishop's vestments in preparation for the vesting and how to vest the hierarch during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. His Eminence and the Subdeacons who lead the sessions explained the theological meaning and development of the vestments and the meaning of the liturgical movements.
His Eminence then brought the younger servers into the church's sanctuary to teach them about all of the furnishings and to show them up close the holy objects on the altar and the table of oblation, explaining their purpose and meaning to them.
We extend our warmest gratitude to His Eminence, the Subdeacons who lead the sessions, the choir, and the faithful of Holy Resurrection Church for their invaluable contributions in making this Annual Retreat a resounding success! May our Lord bless them abundantly for their generosity, granting them all MANY BLESSED YEARS!
