[Syracuse, NY] - On Saturday, July 27, Juliana Woodill presented an informative and enlightening Orthodox choir workshop at Saints Peter and Paul parish in Syracuse. Supported by the Diocesan Commission on Liturgical Music, the workshop included sessions on choir director skills and on vocal/choral techniques. Twenty-four attendees from the NY State Deanery and beyond listened, practiced, and received constructive feedback. Juliana discussed and demonstrated the role of the choir director, choir/director mindset, rehearsal techniques, the importance of warm-ups, conducting gestures, musicianship, solfège breathing best practices, and much more. The day ended with Great Vespers in which the workshop attendees served as conductors and singers. The workshop is available on the Saints Peter and Paul Facebook page.
Matushka Juliana Woodill, a summa cum laude graduate of Westminster Choir College, is the Director of the OCA’s Archdiocesan Choir, as well as the Choir Director at All Saints of America Church in Alexandria, VA. a choral music teacher in the Virginia school system.
