On the weekend of March 8–9, Saint Mary Magdalen Orthodox Church in New York City joyfully welcomed the miracle-working icon of Saint Anna, along with the Seminary Choir of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox Theological Seminary.
The visit began Saturday with a healing molieben at midday, followed by Vespers and a general memorial service for the departed. On Sunday, the faithful gathered for the Divine Liturgy, which was followed by an icon procession and the reading of the Synodikon for the Sunday of Orthodoxy.
Preaching throughout the weekend were Father John Parker, Dean of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary; Father Matthew Brown, Rector of Saint Mary Magdalen; and Father Caleb Lewis, Director of the Seminary Choir.
All services were celebrated in both Spanish and English, drawing a diverse and heartfelt gathering of Orthodox faithful from across New York City. Many Spanish-speaking neighbors from the parish’s predominantly Dominican community also participated, making the weekend a powerful expression of unity in faith.
In addition to marking the beginning of Great Lent and celebrating the Triumph of Orthodoxy, the visit served as a fundraiser for the Seminary’s scholarship fund and a meaningful outreach to the local community.
