On the weekend of March 28–30, approximately thirty women gathered at Saint Andrew’s Camp and Retreat Center in Jewell, NY for a spiritually enriching Lenten Women’s Retreat. The retreat featured guest speaker Mother Melania, Abbess of Holy Assumption Monastery in Calistoga, CA, and a prolific author of Orthodox Christian books.
The retreat opened on Friday evening with a thought-provoking talk by Mother Melania titled “The Beatitudes and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Drawing from Christ’s Sermon on the Mount, she offered participants a fresh and profound perspective on finding lasting joy and true purpose through a life rooted in the Gospel.
Saturday’s main sessions focused on the theme “Be Who You Are in the Body of Christ.” In these talks, Mother Melania encouraged attendees to embrace with humility the person God created each of them to be. She emphasized the interconnectedness of the Body of Christ and the importance of mutual support, cooperation, and service among its members. Her insights resonated deeply, fostering personal introspection, spiritual clarity, and a sense of shared purpose.
Beyond the talks, the retreat was marked by heartfelt fellowship, quiet moments of prayer, and renewed friendships. For many, it was a time of spiritual refreshment and encouragement as they continued their Lenten journey.
Participants returned home uplifted and inspired, grateful for the opportunity to grow in faith and community. The weekend served as a reminder of the strength found in coming together as Orthodox Christian women to seek Christ in prayer, reflection, and mutual support.
