[Jewell, NY] - Horse Week 2025 was an unforgettable adventure at Saint Andrew’s Camp, where faith, friendship, and four-legged fun came together in a week packed with joy and purpose.
Riding lessons and horsemanship skills took place at Hunter Landing Equestrian stables throughout the week. While there, campers learned about horses and how to behave safely around them. They learned about caring for and grooming the horses, and, of course, got lots of instruction and practice riding them.
A highlight of the week was Wednesday’s field trip to Chittenango Wild Animal Park, where campers encountered many exotic animals. Feeding carrots to the giraffes and interacting with parakeets were favorite activities there.
Each morning began with a service such as Matins, an Akathist, or Liturgy, grounding the campers in prayer before the busy days of fun and learning. In the evenings campers participated in vespers, taking time to remember to give thanks and praise to God. In the services campers participated by singing, reading, or serving in the altar, giving them a taste of Liturgical life, and practicing skills they will, hopefully, continue to use in their lives at home.
The rhythm of daily life at camp, as alsways, remained rooted in our Orthodox faith, with daily sessions in Religious Education as well as morning and evening services including Vespers, Matins, Liturgy, a Molieben, and an Akathist which was held outdoors, by beautiful Oneida Lake, and in which the birds seemed to join in the singing.
Daily electives included kayaking, archery, sports, and crafts, followed by a refreshing swim in the lake. Evening activities were a hit: from the lively Horse Games and Camp Clue: “The Case of the Vanishing Trophy,” to a cheerful Hoe Down dance and a Q&A with Archbishop Michael, who joined us to share his wisdom and warmth.
Those campers who didn’t stay for another week (or more) of fun at camp, seemed to leave full of stories, new friendships, and a deeper sense of connection to God and His creation.
We’re so grateful to our hardworking staff, tireless volunteers, and supportive families who make weeks like this possible. Horse Week was more than just riding—it was a week of growth, comradery, laughter, and the kind of joy that lingers long after the dust settles on the trail.
Glory to God for all things!
