On Monday, November 13, local Orthodox clergy participated in a group meeting as part of the Thriving in Ministry resource of the OCA. Administered by the Office of Pastoral Life and funded through a Lilly Endowment, this is a vehicle by which local Orthodox clergy can meet quarterly for mutual support, fellowship, and emotional strength and vibrancy. It crosses jurisdictional lines and helps to unify our clergy as part of one Church. A pro-active means to foster the mental and spiritual health of our clergy, it helps to prevent the feeling of isolation and to avoid “clergy burn-out.” Led by Presbyter Emmanuel Mantzouris (GOA), clergy present were Archpriest Peter Olsen (OCA), Archpriest Matthew Markewich (OCA), Priest Gregory Potter (AOCA), Priest John Vasquez (AOCA), Presbyter Neofitos Sarigiannis (GOA), and Priest Justin Griffing (OCA). This meeting was hosted by Fr. Justin and Matushka Zoe at their parish of St. Nicholas in Pittsfield, Mass. The day began with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy in honor of Saint John Chrysostom. It was a joyful celebration at our Lord's Holy Table, offering Himself as our "essential bread.” After Liturgy, clergy went to the parish house for discussion which was lively and presented various perspectives. After lunch, the clergy returned to the church in order to remember our clergy brothers and our sisters who have fallen asleep in the Lord. It was difficult to leave, as we enjoyed each other's company immensely. On the way home a side trip was made to Fr. Emmanuel’s house for some tea and added brotherly conversation.
