V. Rev. Peter Baktis at the National Jewish-Christian Dialogue 2023: Unifying Voices Against Hate

On December 4-6, 2023, V. Rev. Peter Baktis, the representative for the OCA to the National Council of Churches Interfaith Convening Table, attended the National Jewish-Christian Dialogue hosted and facilitated by the Carter Center Conflict Resolution Program in Israel-Palestine. There was a presentation by Dr. Rev. Gary Masson from the Kennedy Institute for Conflict Intervention at Maynooth University, Ireland. His topic was 'Rethinking Conflict.' A second presentation was given by Dr. Paul Wolpe, Director of the Center of Ethics at Emory University.

The theme of the dialogue was 'Mourning Together/Hoping Together/Where We Go From Here Together.' The focus was on how we hear each other's concerns and address the rise in hate crimes in the US, especially antisemitism and Islamophobia. The participants discussed the plight of the Christian population in the region and ways to give them a greater voice in the conflict.
